County supervisor Kathryn Barger couldn’t make it tonight, but we do have someone here from her office.
showing face, Sora, and character arc structure
¿What you heard?
The candlelight vigil was whacked.
Rather than focusing on the 19 folks who perished in the fire, it was more about showing face for the 10 million orgs listed on this banner…
For the eight pastors they brought up to speak…
And even for folks who weren’t there.
The emcee kept on doing something that I’ve never seen before at any event ever.
“County supervisor Kathryn Barger couldn’t make it tonight,” the emcee would say, “But we do have someone here from her office. They do not wish to speak, but we want to let you know that they are here.”
…but she wasn’t.
What you doin’?!
When Unreal Engine was first introduced to me as a filmmaking tool, it was presented as a great way to make previz. The caveat though is that Unreal is hard and time and resource intensive, so an indie production can really only use it to make two types of previz…
Very low-quality that is effective for internal use but might actually scare off investors
Very high-quality that will take a lot to make and so really should only be pursued when there is already funding in place
But for a project like Aisha Been Manhattan Beach, where we need to make a previz — or short trailer — in order to attract funding, my producer, DP, and I have decided that it probably makes the most sense to use Sora instead.
What you seen??
THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE (2017) is a perfect case study for character arc.
#1 IN HIS MASK, Lord Garmadon acts like he doesn’t care about fatherhood.
#2 HE IS INVITED TO CHANGE by his son but refuses.
#3 HIS MASK IS TESTED, but he tries to keep his false identity as an uncaring warlord.
#4 HIS MASK BREAKS.
We learn the WOUND that led to his mask.
#5 HE STEPS TOWARDS HIS ESSENCE but fails, retreating to his mask and…
#6 REGRESSING to his lowest point.
Until the THIRD ACT TWIST…
Leads him to…
#7 RECOMMIT TO HIS ESSENCE.
And…
#8 INTEGRATE it into a true identity and new status quo.

If you're going down the Sora route, look into building a rewriter. Helps when operating in a more text based medium and you might be able to get back into your pan african animation style more too!
