We are in the stage of figuring out the protagonist’s character arc for Aisha Been Leimert Park.

With the good intention of inviting the community to participate in the screenwriting process, I created a story worksheet that translates major plot and character beats into questions phrased in layperson language.

Four folks expressed interest in filling out the sheet, but in the end, no one actually did it.

In my post mortem, it was pointed out to me that, despite my careful rephrasing of industry jargon, I was still asking too much of them.

I was asking the community to do my job — translating life into art — when, instead, I should have just asked them to model for me, sharing their relevant life stories as reference for me to reinterpret on paper.

Tried to do a quick lil vox pop in the park on Friday night to recover from my error, but I only talked to a few folk without uncovering anything really revelatory. Might chalk this up as a try-again-next-project mistake and move on.
